Injuries reported in explosion in military housing near Calif. Marine Corps base

By The Associated Press

COLEVILLE, Calif. (AP) ' Authorities say up to five people have been injured in an explosion in military housing near the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Coleville.

The training center's deputy director Rodney Allen says the explosion, which was possibly propane-related, was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Friday in a duplex in the family housing area.

He says other structures were damaged.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Gouailhardou (GWEYE'-ar-doo) says as many as five people may have been hurt, but Allen could not confirm an exact number. There was no word on the seriousness of the injuries but Gouailhardou says at least one person was airlifted to a hospital.

Allen says the base fire department and Antelope Valley volunteer fire department responded to the call, with CHP assisting.
